Superintendent Gilbert S. Ginyard Sr.Pastor/Founder
Born February 12, 1955 to William and Helen Ginyard, Gilbert is the seventh of eight children. He was educated in the Stamford Public School System and went on to further his education, attending Eastern Connecticut State College with his major in Biology and minor in Chemistry. He accepted Christ at an early age and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost on August 9, 1968. His walk with Christ has not always been easy but with God’s help he has travailed.
At the age of sixteen, he met Pamela Yvette McCollum and his whole world changed. This courtship lasted throughout the high school and college years and they were united in holy matrimony on October 16, 1976. Through this union two children, Gilbert Jr. (Bunny) and Jazmine (Puppie) were born.
Gilbert had difficulty accepting the call on his life; through the submission, the Lord humbled him by placing him flat on his back in Stamford Hospital. Acknowledging the call, he preached his initial sermon "The Price and the Payment" in October of 1980 at Wilson Memorial Church of God in Christ, where for many years he remained faithful to the ministry and the church, giving his all to Christ. He was ordained an Elder of the Church Of God in Christ in July 1985.
Although Elder Ginyard was faithful in his service God had much more in store for him. As he humbly followed leadership under Bishop Charles Henry Brewer Jr., and served in his state and local church, God was preparing him for a greater work. Through prayer and fasting and lying before the Lord, it was ordained on October 19, 1995 that CornerStone Church of God in Christ should be birthed. Elder Ginyard continued to fast and pray for guidance and the Lord led him to a under utilized sanctuary right in downtown Stamford; answering his earnest prayer, God provided manna from on high, which enabled Elder Ginyard to fulfill the requirement, needed to secure the use of the sanctuary.
On June 16, 1996 (Fathers Day) at 12:30 p.m. the Lord opened CornerStone Church Of God in Christ. Our Heavenly Father showed us favor with his presence. The doors of his sanctuary opened with Pastor Ginyard singing "You are Welcome in this House" a song that the Holy Ghost had given him to usher in the new work.
For the past twenty years, Pastor Ginyard has faithfully served CornerStone Church Of God in Christ through his preaching, teaching and leadership. Through the growth of the church people have been saved, bodies have been healed and ministries mentored. The church has gone through relocation pains, but never wavered in its covenant with God.
In 2000 under the directive of the late Bishop Charles H. Brewer Jr., Pastor Ginyard was appointed Superintendent of the Stamford District of the first Jurisdiction of Connecticut. In 2001, Superintendent Ginyard was appointed Chairmen of the State Baptismal Board for Connecticut 1st. Continuing to be led by God, in 2010, Bishop Brewer elevated Supt. Ginyard to the position of Administrative Assistant and appointed him Chairman of the State Ordination Board for Connecticut 1st. That same year, Pastor Ginyard was elected 1st Vice President of the Stamford Branch of the NAACP. In 2011 Administrative Assistant Ginyard was appointed to serve on the National Executive Committee, and the National Resolution Committee of the General Assembly of the Church of God in Christ Inc.
Throughout the years, regardless of the changes, Supt. Ginyard has remained God’s Submissive Servant.
